The Island of Menorca
One of the Balearic Islands, the island of Menorca sits alongside its more well known siblings – Ibiza and Mallorca. Although it is the smallest of the three Balearic Islands in size, Menorca boasts an impressive array of beaches and coves (over 100!!!), and actually more than both Ibiza and Majorca combined.
Aside from the many beautiful sandy beaches, Menorca has a lovely blend of rugged cliffs and rolling hills making it the perfect base for a family adventure. One perfect adventure would be a scenic hike along the Camí de Cavalls coastal path, discovering hidden coves and breathtaking vistas along the way.
The famous coastal path is 185km long so we’d definitely not suggest doing the whole route with the children, but it is split into 20 setions, ranging from 5km to 13km – making it the perfect family day out.

If you are looking to head out for the day, then make sure that the Minis have the correct footwear on!
It’s so easy for you all to set off from the beach in your flip-flops or Crocs and soon you’ll be wishing you had those trusty walking boots with you.
Check out these great children’s options for suitable, lightweight hiking footwear.
The Weather In Menorca
Menorca has a typical Mediterranean climate – It has it’s mild and wet winters and it’s warm, dry summers. The weather is relatively consistent, making it easy to plan activities and pack clothing choices.
The coldest months are often January and February, and these coincide with the quieter spells on the Island with less tourists visiting.
On the flip side, August is usually the hottest time of the year, with temperatures often reaching 30deg celsius, so make sure you pack plenty of suncream if you are visiting during the UK summer holidays!
Transport on the Island
There are no motorways or rail services on the Island of Menorca, but the public transport system on Menorca is still very good. It is cheap, punctual, clean and airconditioned making it perfect for easily travelling around with children. Bus departures go from the two Cities of Mahon or Ciutadella to all the main beach resorts.
It is not a service with frequent departures so depending on where you are staying, connections can be difficult. It is also worth noting that the frequency of bus services is also heavily dependent upon the season and how busy the Island is –
more tourists = more buses running!
There is a bus service between the airport and the bus station in Mahón (Bus Aeroport), and a direct bus service to Macarella beach and to Favàritx. There is a night bus service (Bus Nit), as well as a fiesta night bus service that operates during the local festivals (Jaleo Bus); both services are very convenient for a night out.

Another way to explore this wonderful Island, certainly for a few days, is to hire a car. It is an easy way to explore the island and the perfect means to seek out those hidden gems.
Driving overseas can be a lot of fun, though it is important to remember that in Menorca they drive on the right-hand side. If you are driving in Menorca, remember to carry your driving licence at all times whilst driving. Also make sure that you have your passport and car hire contract (if you have hired a vehicle) with you.
Shared transfers (shuttle buses) are useful, as they provide transport between the airport and resorts during the summer season. Other options include taxis, car hire and private transfers, with many companies to choose from both at the airport and across the island. It would also be worth checking with your Accommodation or Travel Agent as they may well offer transfers to and from the airport. These great All-inclusive options are a perfect base for your stay and would be able to arrange a transfer if needed.
