Cala’n Bosch

Cala’n Bosch is a picturesque coastal destination tucked away on the southwestern shores of Menorca, just to the south of Ciutadella. With it’s clean sandy shores and calm clear waters this truly is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered by families.

Cala’n Bosch is known for its upbeat atmosphere and is perfect for all ages. Located near to the marina, Cala’n Bosch is the larger of two beaches in the area, the other being Son Xoriguer. This beautiful beach is a firm favourite not only with tourists, but with locals as well and this speaks volumes when it comes to it being a great family hot spot. However, being the larger of the two beaches in the area, it can often be quite busy during peak times.

The beach has a lifeguard on duty to ensure the safety of those in and around the water and there are toilet and parking facilities, making it perfect for a family day out. For those requiring accessibility options, there is a wooden walkway which provides easier access for both buggies and those requiring mobility support.

Aside from swimming and snorkelling, there are not many options at Cala’n Bosch for watersport activities. However, for those that are looking for a little thrill on or under the water, nearby Son Xoriguer has a variety of options from boat trips to scuba adventures.

Beautifully set in a cove, the the beach at Cala en Porter is sheltered and the crystal clear waters are calm. The cove itself attracts a variety of marine life and due to it’s calmness provides a great opportunity to get up close while snorkelling.

The shallow waters extend out over 100 metres and coupled with the lifeguards, provides a perfect place for the younger members of the family to play and splash around in the water. There are places near to the beach where canoes and pedalos can be hired which add to the adventure in this cove. A big plus to this little gem is that there are showers available to wash away the sand before leaving.

Away from the beach, there is a play area for the children to burn off some steam, as well as toilets and a car park. For food, it is worth venturing inland slightly to the resort itself where you will find supermarkets, restaurants and bars.

One thing to note is that there are over 150 steps down to the beach itself, which can prove a little tricky for little legs or those with buggies / wheelchairs. There is a longer route which is more accessible if such a route is needed.

Whilst exploring these trails there are a number of spots perfect for a lunchtime picnic. There is also a bar / beach cafe located near to the beach if you wanted something after venturing onto the hiking trails.

In order to make the most of your time at Cala Macarella, it would be worth noting that it can get very busy during peak times. To avoid the crowds as much as possible, perhaps look at an early morning or late afternoon trip to the beach with a picnic sandwiched in between.
